Analysis of high frequency impedance matching for wireless power transfer

Abstract:
      Magnetic resonant wireless power transmission is a new type of technology which conducts non-radiative, mid-range power transmission using the near magnetic field based on resonant coupling phenomena. Impedance matching technology is widely used in wireless power transfer to increase transmission distance,to improve the transmission efficiency and to provide the maximum power for the load. The conventional transformers are used for impedance matching in low frequencies, for the magnetic cores can be saturated and easy to be heated in high frequencies and the transmission efficiency will be reduced. The transformers wound by using the transmission line theory can be used for high frequency transmission which exchanged energy through inductance and capacitance coupling between transmission lines. In this paper, the principle of impedance matching for wireless power transfer is analyzed, and the comparison experiments are carried out using high frequency transformers. The experimental results show that the high frequency transformer can be used in wireless power transfer, and the system can maintain the transmission efficiency and the maximum output voltage while increases transmission distance under appropriate matching, therefore, it is an alternative method to improve the performance of wireless power transfer.
