      With the rapid development of new energy industrial, higher requirements have been put forward to the comprehensive performance of energy materials and devices. Lithium-ion cathode materials, especially high nickel ternary materials (LiNi1-x-yCoxMnyO2), with high energy density, high working voltage and excellent chemical stability, were considered as one of the superior cathode materials for the next generation power batteries. In this review, the current advantages and disadvantages of the high nickel ternary materials are analyzed. On the basis of this, their modification methodologies are reviewed, mainly including doping cations and anions, surface coating, design of concentration gradient materials and graphene compounding. Finally, we expect the future development directions and commercial application prospects.
