Abstract:
      Solid State Transformer(SST), also known as power electronics transformer(PET), is a new type of power electronics equipment aimed at replacing traditional 60 Hz transformers. It has the advantages of small size, light weight, better controllability, and capable of integrating multiple smart functions. Therefore the SST has a great potential in a wide variety of applications such as voltage conversion, renewable energy integration, energy storage, electrical vehicle charging, locomotive, etc. However, there are many challenges in the SST development, such as achieving medium and high voltage capabilities needed for connecting to distribution and transmission grid. The Journal of Power Supply published the special issue on Solid State Transformer and Their Applications to promotes the discussions of key challenges and problems in SST technologies.
