Abstract:
      The fault diagnosis of switches is the premise for the realization of a three-level inverter system's reliable operation. Based on a diode neutral-point-clamped(NPC) three-level inverter, a novel diagnosis method for open-ci-rcuit switch faults is proposed. First, the switching states, polarity of load phase currents and bridge arm phase voltages are selected as fault characteristics. Then, the open-circuit fault characteristics are analyzed based on different current flow paths, thus realizing the accurate location of fault switches. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed fault diagnosis method were verified by experiments, compared with other open-circuit fault diagnosis methods, this method does not need complex algorithms, and it has advantages of faster diagnosis and higher reliability.
