Abstract:
      In consideration of the multiple peaks appearing on the P-V curves of photovoltaic(PV) array under local shading conditions, a global maximum power point tracking(GMPPT) algorithm is proposed based on the output characteristics of PV array. This algorithm is composed of two maximum power point tracking algorithms, which are under uniform illumination and local shading conditions, respectively. By means of the proposed local shadow detection method, the illumination condition for the PV array is distinguished to determine which sub-algorithm will be adopted. Finally, this algorithm is verified through simulations using Matlab, showing that it can fast track the global maximum power point under local shading conditions and avoid scanning the whole P-V curve; under uniform illumination conditions, it can locate the maximum power point faster than the traditional maximum power point tracking algorithm(e.g., perturbati-on and observation method P&O).
