Abstract:
      An electrolytic-capacitor-free Buck-Boost forward-flyback LED drive circuit is proposed in this paper, which inherits the advantage of the traditional drive circuit, i.e., the energy of leakage inductance is fed back to the input terminal. Considering that the traditional topology presents large output voltage ripples at the increasing output power without electrolytic capacitor, a forward-flyback circuit is successfully applied to the traditional drive circuit of DC/DC level based on the existing research on LED lighting driver. The transformer have capacitances as the center energy storage elements on both the primary and secondary sides, and it works in forward-flyback modal, which improves its power density; meanwhile, the transformer have freewheel inductance on its secondary side, thus greatly reducing the output voltage ripples. The steady-state operating characteristics of the converter are analyzed in detail. Finally, an experimental prototype of 30 W output was manufactured, and the test results verified the reasonability and feasibility of the novel design.
